Display Not Working!

The rev counter and speedo have stopped working (don't light up or otherwise turn on), although the fuel gauge can still be seen faintly. I went out for a ride earlier and everything was in order, however when it was time to come home after a couple of hours, this had happened.

It's happened to to me a couple of times before but it's either cured itself during the journey or the following morning; I'm looking for a more permanent solution!

I've been told it could either be corrosion of the fuses or need for a new display cable.

Any advice is appreciated!

As Jorge said, check the fuses under your seat and make sure none are blown, but before you start follow the other steps and start pulling things apart, check the huge plug on the back of the dash. If the entire thing is going out at once, I'd guess that the plug's probably just come loose. You can get at it under the nose if you get your arm in there right, just try pushing it back on.
On my bike the rubber boot that sits on it had come off over time, if yours is the same and the connector's definitely fully in, it could well have some water in there, in which case pull the plug, have a look in the connector for water and give it a quick WD40

That's where I'd start!
