Hi All,
Just had a quote for a 7000 mile service from CMC, was expecting a fair price when the woman on the phone hyped it up as baing a really big service, needing spark plug/air filter & valve clearances but when she quoted £208 I was a tad shocked!!!! I phoned them up for a quote before xmas (early December) and was previously quoted £159 i think. When I queried this she said they'd had a price increase on parts (lol, what parts, spark plug, oil filter, air filter & oil, you could buy the whole lot for less than the £49 increase). Anyhow, I booked it in anyway (needs doing soon and wanted to make sure I got a slot). Figured I'd get another quote from SMC in Sheffield (within about 20 mins walking distance of my work), they quoted me £85 or about £150 if the brake calipers need a rebuild (don't think they do).
So, had the satisfaction of calling CMC back and cancelling. The woman I spoke to was quite shocked at the lower quote from SMC and tried the old "well we're doing the service to yamaha's spec, make sure you get a check sheet" crap. She went quiet when I pointed out that SMC are also a Yamaha dealer and didn't offer any reduction in price. Needless to say, it won't be getting serviced there again :)

Moral of that story is make sure you shop around!

If you've had any quotes lately, please add them (what mileage, which garage and how much).

The only Yamaha Dealer near me (where i bought my bike from) charged me £275 for a 3000 mile service!!!

They charge £85 an hour for labour.
My 3000 mile service just before Xmas cost me 120 all in labour oil and filter. They tell me 6000 mike service which I be booking soon will be slightly more at around 180.

Did you buy your bike from new? have you kept in good condition? (silly question i know but have to ask.) I can't see how our bike would need anything doing to valves at only 3000 miles.
I've kept it in fairly good nick.

I was surprised the valves needed changed aswell but i don't know a whole lot about bikes so i didn't want to take a chance so just agreed to have it done.

I guess it's not impossible but seems unlikely to me. My 3000 and 6000 service will cost about what you been charged. I would look into taking your bike elsewhere.

I do all my own servicing...

K&N Air Filter.
My own oil changes (I don't trust the garages to do the job to the same standard that I do it).
Oil Filter.
New Iridium Spark Plug.
Greasing various parts.
Tightening the drive chain.

Then every now and then, I take the bike in to the garage to do a general health check (all bearings etc. etc.) which is a half hour labour at around £40 incl VAT.
They also adjust my throttle and clutch, and the other things like that as necessary.
I will also take it back in another occasion to have the valve clearances checked which is a half hour job, and then adjusted (if they need adjusting) which is only another half hour job.

I am assuming the reason you are paying for your services, is because of the warranty?

For my 3,500 service I was quoted 160 and that's if I let them replace brake pads. Which I may do myself. And they're having a sale on labour otherwise it'd be 220

Mine was only 110 plus the oil etc. and then working of a Yamaha service schedule so maybe your place doing extras not on that list or they charge to much.
