Apparently you should have a thing like the sidelights underneath that you can pull out, but never gave it a go

This has been done before!

You open it up, de-solder the exisisting LEDs, and then solder new ones in I believe.
You are spot on with the SMTs.

Why would you want to change it though?
It's RED for a reason!!!!

Any other colour is just annoyingly distracting.
Troy has a blue backlit screen. It annoys ME when I ride with him!

simply for looks, i'd like to be able to switch colours (dunno if that's possible) so i could have red whilst riding and other colours for showing off, no idea how to solder btw!

You'd have a right challenge to do it then Gweglez. It'd need some Multicolour LEDs, and a bit more circuit adding to the board, along with a switch you'd have to try and route somwhere and find space for wires, and try and find a place to solder a switch onto the existing board!
You could probably get it made by a company and move the old parts over, but I doubt it's worth it really.

If you find me a new soldering iron, I will do it for you!
My only soldering iron at the moment has a head about 2cm wide!
I need a precision one!
