I was changing the pads and a sort of oblong spring plate fell out and I am not sure where it fits, I was guessing it went in the middle below the two pistons but it doesn't fit there, I can't find a picture anywhere. I have a Haynes manual but it doesn't really show it.

I think that's to stop squealing/vibration, so i think the springy bit usually would go somewhere across the back of both pads and against the caliper somehow. You shouldn't have to force it but it should mean the pads are always uner light tension vs the caliper (and hence won't vibrate as much). it's difficult to explain but hopefulyl that helps a bit

I just checked on mine and a pic wouldn't help much without taking it apart, which, as it happens, I'm doing next on mine, but not till later this week, and hopefully you'll have sorted it by then.
